UCR的Sierra和Sequoia，绿皮红肉，眼熟不？

在三所美国大学（UCR, LSU, TAMU）的无花果育种计划中，UC主要想在加州（有榕小蜂）已有的Calimyrna（授粉品种）基础上增产和降成本（变成无需授粉的普通型）。UC育种品种中Tena（参见我认为其就是纤手绿皮的帖子）作为一个制作干果的优秀品种脱颖而出，得到了推广。此后UC又在Tena基础上培育了Sierra和Sequoia（和之前公开的品种不同，注册了专利保护）。

Sequoia的专利保护（二十年）2026年底到期。

A new and distinct variety of Fig tree denominated ‘Sequoia’ is described. The new ‘Sequoia’ fig variety is a high quality, medium to large size, yellow-green skinned fig of the “common” type, developed for use in the fresh market fig industry. The ‘Sequoia’ tree is of medium vigor and size and is a regular and productive bearer, developing both a Breba and second crop in most years. The ‘Sequoia’ has a tight ostiole that substantially restricts the entry of most insects into the interior of the fig fruit. In comparison with the ‘Tena’ parent cultivar, the ‘Sequoia’ is substantially larger in size and has a more prolific Breba crop. The larger size of the ‘Sequoia’ allows it be harvested later into the fall when the decreased size of other cultivars such as ‘Tena’ precludes their use in the fresh market.

Sequoia也是加州大学育种的（James Doyle和Louise Ferguson）。

1992年在加州Fresno郡Clovis做了一次杂交，母本是Tena，父本是D3-11，总共353株子代。


1998年选出了Sequoia。2006年申请了专利，2026就要过期了。
