As promised in the description of yesterday's posted photo, this photo shows why these plants are called blackberry lilies (Belamcanda chinensis). The little black fruits are about the size of the individual fruits in a blackberry fruit, and, of course, about the same color. You can see the remains of the ovary walls -- the brown flaps. In the photo posted yesterday, the ovaries are green, but, of course, they weren't ripe yet.

I was unable to determine whether the fruit is edible, but VirginiaDonkey kindly commented that it is mildly poisonous.
